On November 15, 2017, the Polish Ambassador to the United States Piotr Wilczek, on the invitation of Lee Feinstein, Dean of Indiana University’s School of Global and International Studies, made remarks on behalf of the Polish nation on the occasion of maestro Krzysztof Penderecki’s visit to Indiana University, and spoke with a small group of SGIS Direct-Admit students.
On January 19th, 2018, the Russian Studies Workshop hosted a telebridge session with two such individuals, IU alumni Thomas Leary and Rich Woodhouse, both of whom currently work at the United States Consulate in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
This semester has brought four visiting scholars to REEI for extended stays, each with a varying, diverse background academically and personally. For this edition of REEIfication, in February REEI M.A. student Megan Burnham sat down with all four of them individually to talk about their experiences.
Dr. Ivan Grigoriev is a Senior Lecturer at the department of Applied Politics at the Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg, Russia. He is a post-doctoral fellow with the Russian Studies Workshop at IU, specializing in the subject of Russia’s Constitutional Courts. At IU he is teaching a course about courts, constitutions, and human rights in authoritarian states.
In late January and early February, Gertjan Plets, a cultural anthropologist based at the University of Utrecht, spent nearly a week at IU as a visiting scholar with the Russian Studies Workshop, the Ostrom Workshop, and REEI.
This past semester, the Russian Studies Workshop continued its mission of promoting Russian studies scholarship by hosting a series of talks from experts in the field and post-graduate fellows covering a diverse range of Russian studies related topics.
