The Polish Studies Center offers the Polish Century Club of Indianapolis Exploratory Fellowship for graduate students in the first two years of their study at Indiana University. The Polish Century Club Exploratory Research Fellowship provides up to $2,000 for research in Poland during the period of May 2024-May 2025. The fellowship is open to graduate and professional students who want to investigate the possibility of further research in Poland. The primary purpose of the grant is to support early-stage research, including making contact with academics and other experts with knowledge relevant to the proposed research. Language study is also encouraged as a secondary activity. A student who has been accepted to the exchange with the University of Warsaw or Jagiellonian University may receive the fellowship in order to prolong the stay in Poland for purposes of research or for additional language study. A summer language program may also be combined with the exploratory research in Poland. Students with limited prior experience in Poland are particularly encouraged to apply.
A complete application will consist of:
· a research statement, not to exceed 500 words;
· a letter of support from the student's advisor. Note: The letter should be sent to the PSC directly from the faculty member. Letters transmitted via the applicant will not be accepted;
· an unofficial IU transcript (PDF from One.iu.edu is acceptable);
· a tentative budget (cost of airfare, accommodations, etc.)
· recommended: indication of mentoring support at a Polish institution. This might include emails from scholars in Poland and/or detailed information from the student's advisor.
Applications for both scholarships will be reviewed by the PSC Director, Associate Director, and members of the Executive Committee. Materials are due by Wednesday, March 20th at 5pm EST and an announcement of the winner will be made by the middle of April.
Application materials should be submitted to the Polish Studies Center at polish@indiana.edu. Contact Colton Ames, Associate Director of PSC, at colames@indiana.edu with any questions.
